Grade 5 Music Theory
One book instead of five. Everything from Grade 1 to Grade 5 — rebuilt by topic, not by grade.
My students pass, and they pass fast.
- One passed in a week — a Grade 5 pianist who had put the theory off.
- Two passed with Distinction — on thirty minutes a week.
- One sits her exam next month, after eight lessons.
Whether the theory is the one thing standing between you and Grade 6, or you are starting from nothing.

You do not need five books. You need one.
The usual route to Grade 5 is to buy the Grade 1 book, then the Grade 2 book, then three, then four, then five — and to meet the same subject five separate times, a little more of it each year.
Everything in those five books is in this one. Not summarised. Rebuilt.
Rebuilt by topic, instead of by grade. So intervals are one chapter: all of them, from the first to the last, learned once and then finished. Not a slice of pitch this month and another slice of pitch two months later, by which time you have forgotten the first slice. That is not learning, it is re-learning — and it is why theory takes people years.
You will not be starting again at Grade 1. You will be learning each thing once, completely, and crossing it off.
That is the whole idea. It is also why four weeks is enough.
The whole map, printed in the book. Six chapters, twenty-two knowledge points, one page. Cross off what you already have; the rings still open are your work list.

Every point, the same three steps
What the knowledge is. The shortest way to work it out. One example, worked all the way through. Twenty-two times, in the same order, so you always know where you are.

Four weeks, day by day
22 days to learn it, 6 days to prove it. The plan is printed in the book — you do not have to invent a schedule, you just have to turn up.

The last thing you read
A two-page cheat sheet at the back — one box for every one of the twenty-two points. This is what you take with you on the morning of the exam.
Everything is engraved, nothing is scanned
Every note on every page was set by hand to one house standard. Not photographed out of a textbook, not clip‑art. You can print it, write on it, and print it again.
And every one of the twenty-two knowledge points gets its own video, free, on YouTube. The book is what you work from; the videos are me explaining it.
Sixty pages. Written for the person who has put this off and now has a date.
What this replaces — and the one thing it does not
Not five separate grade books. One book, instead of five.
Not a separate set of videos, either. Every one of the twenty-two knowledge points has its own video, free, on YouTube — the book is what you work from, the videos are me explaining it.
One thing this does not replace: ABRSM’s own past papers. When you have the knowledge and you want to sit a full paper under the clock, buy those from ABRSM — they are the real thing, and nothing I could make would be a better rehearsal. Theory books and exam papers have always been bought separately; this replaces the books, not the papers.
What it costs
All of Grades 1–5 theory rebuilt into 22 knowledge points — 60 pages, the one-page syllabus map, the four-week day-by-day plan, and the two-page cheat sheet for the morning of the exam.
Exam sections for every knowledge point are being written now. When they are done your download link gives you the complete edition automatically — you buy this book once.

While you wait, I will send you one free exercise sheet from the Exercise Book each week.
No spam, ever. One email a week at most, and you can leave whenever you like.
