ABRSM requires Grade 5 Theory before you can take Grade 6, 7 or 8 practical exams — and for many students it becomes the bottleneck that stalls their playing. This programme removes that obstacle in a focused, 4-week sprint.

Why I built this

I am a penny-pinching person, and I hate watching students waste money.

Here is the usual route to Grade 5 theory. Five official workbooks, one for each grade — £58.75. An exercise book on top — £7.50. And a teacher at the Musicians’ Union minimum of £44 an hour, once a week for fifty weeks — £2,200.

Is it really that hard? Grade 5 theory is a gate — you cannot sit any Grade 6 or higher practical exam until you are through it. But does a child need a whole year and more than two thousand pounds to get past a gate?

I refuse to believe that.

So: four weeks. Three sessions a week. Twelve in all.

You can be a complete beginner. The only things I ask are that you keep up, and that you do the homework. If you do not do the homework, this will not work — that part is not negotiable. Do it, and you will be fine.
